The project is based on the experience lived by the pianists Iliana Ross and Marekhi Kotetishvili. After many years of training as piano and chamber music performers in very different and remote ways, their paths crossed and intertwined in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The disparate origin of both women, Cuba and Georgia, contributes to an explosive mix of Latin-American and Caucasian sensitivity and musicality, creating a wonderful artistic mosaic of this special music duo. Vitoria-Gasteiz was chosen as the destination for an encounter that generates great cultural projects. Its streets, squares and people are constant sources of inspiration in the search for bonds among three very different but closely connected cultures: Cuba, Georgia and the Basque Country.
All together, Iliana and Marekhi took a long walk through the capital of the Basque Country that led them to discover Vitoria-born composer Silvia San Miguel, who
embarked on this project with the creation of new pieces, written especially for them.
Many months of getting deeper into these musical relations, of searching for recordings and scores, until finding pieces that represent the musical journey they have already started in their lives. Pieces from America and Georgia accompany the work by this Basque composer.
The Ross-Kotetishvili Duo represents the delicate determination and iron will of two women that have been able to combine their tasks as educationalists and performers, integrating these two projections into their daily work starting from a common denominator: their passion for the piano.
